Two suspected clerics arrested by vigilante men at Ayegun area, Ibadan, Oyo State after severing the body of a corpse buried four days earlier are being quized by the Oyo State Police Command.
It was gathered that the suspects, Alfa Hammed Sulaiman and Pastor Akinyele Tope, were arrested with the exhibits last week.
Parading the suspects alongside 13 other suspects for being in possession and buying of human parts at the state police command, Eleyele, Ibadan, Mr Abiodun Odude, the state Commissioner of Police, said their arrest led to the arrest of two more suspects by operatives of the special anti-robbery squad of the command.
Speaking with journalists during the parade, Alfa Sulaiman said his clients come to his residence for all kinds of prayers including money rituals, Akinyele claimed he is a presiding pastor of Light of God C&S Church, Ojagbo, Oranyan, Ibadan.
Confessing to the crime, Alfa Sulaiman said he used to buy human parts especially chunk of meat between N2,100 and N3,000.
“I called one of them that I wanted to buy human parts. We then agreed to go to the graveyard at night. I usually buy a chunk of human flesh for N2,100. I pound it with soap then give my customers to bathe with it.”
While denying buying parts of killed persons, he admitted having many clients including market men and women.
On how he would distinguish between human parts of exhumed bodies and those killed intentionally, he explained that when he smelt the parts, he would know if the person was killed or exhumed from a graveyard.
The other suspect, Pastor Tope also confessed to having taken an active part in the crime said the insatiable quest to get rich pushed him into the crime.
Meanwhile, the Police Command has vowed to arrest all suspects in connection with the killing of an operative of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) by suspected herdsmen.
The Commander of a team of SARS, ASP, Sheu Magu, was reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen as they tried disarming the herdsmen who were allegedly terrorising residents of Saki.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abiodun Odude, said the police command had earlier arrested four suspects in connection with the killing but promised more will go in for it.
“Investigation into the root of the matter has just started.
“We have earlier arrested four suspects and we are going to get more suspects in connection with the killing of the SARS operatives,” Odudu said.
