Some major stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) from South South geo- political zone of the country have tasked supporters for record-breaking votes for their candidates including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2027 general elections

Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio tasked the people to deliver the highest votes for the re-election of President Tinubu.

Akpabio gave the charge on Wednesday at the APC South-South Zonal Congress held in Asaba, Delta State and attended by the Governors of the six States in the region.

He thanked President Tinubu and the APC for recognising the South-South zone after about 45 years in which the zone last had an opportunity to produce a Senate President.

The Senate President said the APC had treated the South-South very well and that the people in the zone had equally reciprocated by joining the party

The Akwa Ibom-born politician recalled how, in 2023, APC in South-South started with just one Governor- the Cross River State Governor, but now has in its fold all the six Governors in the zone.

“Now Governor of Cross River State, you are no longer alone. All these achievements, to have all these Governors coming together in the South-South was made possible by the fact that the Zonal leadership of the party under Victor Giadom has been steady, steadfast and focus.

“So the President said l should particularly thank the South-South. It is not whether you are going to win in 2027, because you cannot be escorted by lions and you become afraid of goats.

“Now that we are complete and and we are focused, the question then will be: What quantum of votes will the South-South give to the APC?

“So turn to the person by your side. Challenge the person. Say we will give the highest votes among the six zones in Nigeria. We will give the highest.

“APC has treated us very well and we have reciprocated by joining the party. Imagine the last time we had a Senate President from this zone, Joseph Wayas, about 45 years ago.

“So under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the South-South is now recognised. We are on the table. You cannot have a brother on the table and you go and carry last. Can South-South carry last? So we thank the APC for recognising the South-South and giving us this position of the Senate President,” Akpabio said.

The host Governor Sheriff Oborevwori 1of Delta State spoke of the importance of the zone, saying that “South-South is very key to this nation and this is the first time the South-South is coming together under one party.

“Today is not just another political gathering. It is a declaration that the APC in South-South is united, organised and ready for the future.

“We have demonstrated that the APC remains the most structured and democratic Party in Nigeria. We must continue to deepen our unity, strengthen our structures in every ward, local government and stay firmly connected to the grassroots,” he stated.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, commended the leadership of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the South SouthΒ for the peaceful conduct of its zonal congress.

Fielding questions from Government House Correspondents, Wednesday, March 25, 2026, on his arrival at the Victor Attah International Airport from Asaba, Delta State where he attended the APC South South Zonal Congress, the Governor said the congress was peaceful and successful, and that zonal officials emerged through a seamless and hitch-free process.

“It went well. I am sure you must have seen it on the Television. It was seamless and hitch-free. It is something we have been praying for.

“All of the peace that is radiating from Akwa Ibom through the entire South South region of the country is rooted in the consensus arrangement,” he said.

He congratulated the newly elected South South Zonal executive of the Party, and wished them a successful tenure.

On participation, he noted that attendance was massive as key party faithful including the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; South South zonal leaders, State Governors and party stakeholders showed up at the congress.

The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Unyime Idem congratulated the newly elected Zonal Executive Committee, President Bola Tinubu for his leadership, and the leaders and members of the party in the South South for working to unite the APC.

Addressing journalists after the Congress, Idem noted that the region has witnessed remarkable transformation, moving from minimal APC presence to becoming a strong political bloc with increased alignment from governors and stakeholders.

He reiterated his commitment to the unity and progress of the party, vowing to ensure mobilization of grassroots support in order to consolidate the APC’s growing influence in Akwa Ibom state and the South-South region.

The congress was conducted through a consensus arrangement, reinforcing the party’s commitment to unity and internal cohesion.

At the end of the exercise, Chief Victor Giadom from Rivers State emerged as National Vice Chairman South-South, Dr. Ita Udosen from Akwa Ibom – Zonal Secretary, Barr. Neworld Safugha – Legal Adviser, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike from Rivers – Publicity Secretary, Prince Urhoro Koyoyo – Youth Leader, Hon. Suobankuo Omoni – Women Leader, Hon. Prince Edward Ajang – Organising Secretary, and Prince Ayo Peter Olowojoba Β as representative of Persons with disabilities.
