In a renewed cult clash, three person have reportedly been killed in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.

A source in Eket, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Monday, June 21 at a popular area called Idung Afianwe in Eket.

He said the killing of the trio was caused by a fight between two rival cult groups – Axe Confraternity and Klans- over a girl at a popular spot along Afaha Ukwa Street, Eket.

The source, who claims to be a member of one of the cult groups said: “the fracas started on Monday, June 21 and we lost a vibrant young man.

“We all know the clubhouse at Afaha Uqua, where they sell all sorts of hard and contraband drugs and where those lose girls hang around. All the cult wars in Eket start from there and it’s high time the government shut the place to stop all these cult wars in Eket.”

According to him, one Klans cult member and two Axe cult members have so far been killed in the renewed cult war.

When the News Agency of Nigeria contacted the spokesperson of the State Police Command, Odiko Macdon, he said that the Command had not received any report on the incident.

“I have not received any report on the incident. However, we shall investigate and get back to you. We will get the needed contacts, but I can’t talk now,’’ Macdon stated.

Meanwhile, two brothels, Candy Shot located at Afaha Uqua Road and Black & White located in Ofriyo, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been closed down indefinitely.

The decision to close down the two brothels was caused by the death of three persons following a minor disagreement.

It was gathered that the incident which started at Candy Shot brothel at about 11:am on Monday, June 21, led to two men attacking each other with broken bottles.

The operation as directed by the Chairman of Eket local government area, Akaninyene Tommey was carried out by Eket Environmental Protection/Waste Management Committee led by the Secretary of the Committee, Mr Richy Udoka aka Imoh Badoo with a team of policemen from Eket Divisional Police Headquarters.

The Chairman in a bid to ensure the security of lives and property of Eket people, joined the Eket Police Area Commander, ACP Baba Audu and the DPO CSP Sunday Digha on a raid of the brothels and arrested some miscreants.

The Chairman while commending gallant officers of the Police force, further charged them not to spare anyone in the course of their duty as the safety and well being of Eket people is of utmost importance to him.
