A 36-Year-old Cameroonian arrested and deatined by Akwa Ibom police for defilement of a preschooler in Mkpanak Village, Ibeno Local Government Area is awaiting arraignment.
One Joseph Mbake, 36 years, a Cameroonian and fisherman resident in Mkpanak Village, was arrested alongside others for investigation over an alleged defilement case involving a four-year-old child.
A press release signed by DSP Timfon John, the state Command’s Police Public Relations Officer for Commissioner of Police dated 2 March said ‘‘the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the investigation of an alleged defilement case involving a four-year-old child in Mkpanak Village, Ibeno Local Government Area.

‘‘On 24th February, 2026, at about 1400hrs, one Gift reported that she observed a suspicious discharge from the private part of her four-year-old daughter while bathing her. Upon careful questioning, the child alleged that she had been sexually abused by an adult male who she stated she could identify if seen.
‘‘The Police promptly issued a medical examination form, and the child was taken for immediate medical attention.’’
According to the release, ‘‘Acting on credible intelligence, operatives swung into action and expanded surveillance within the neighbourhood. In the early hours of 1st March, 2026, one Joseph Mbake ‘M’, 36 years, a Cameroonian national and fisherman resident in Mkpanak Village, was arrested alongside others for investigation.
‘‘An identification parade was subsequently conducted in accordance with laid-down procedures, during which the victim identified the suspect.
‘‘Preliminary investigation reveals that the alleged incident occurred on 14th February, 2026.’’
The Command strongly condemns all forms of sexual abuse, especially against minors, and assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable members of society.
Parents and guardians are advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the nearest Police Station.
Police rescue a two-month-old baby in Ikot Abasi
In another development, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect and rescued a two-month old child from the abductor in Ikot Etetuk Village in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.
‘‘On 26th February, 2026, at about 0828hrs, one Peace ‘F’, in company of her mother, reported at the Police Station that her two-month-and-three-week-old baby boy, had been abducted.
‘‘Preliminary investigation revealed that at about 0559hrs on the same date, the mother of the child had briefly left the baby in the care of her own mother. Upon her return at about 0630hrs, she was informed that the grandmother had left the baby asleep on the bed while she took her bath. However, on returning to the room, the child was nowhere to be found,’’ a press release by the command said.
DSP Timfon John, the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, had on 28 February, stated ‘‘Further enquiries led to the discovery that one Goodnews ‘F’, aged 23 years, of Ikot Etetuk Village, allegedly tore the window net of the room and stole the baby. A swift search operation within the vicinity resulted in the suspect being apprehended with the baby in her custody.’’
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, reassures residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of children and the prosecution of offenders. Parents and guardians are strongly advised to remain vigilant and take necessary security precautions to prevent such incidents.
