More than 58 people were killed in Las Vegas Sunday night by a lone gunman who opened fire from a perch high up in the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, making it the deadliest shooting in modern US history, police said.
A report monitored on ABCNews says more than 400 persons were injured during the Route 91 Harvest country music festival after the shooting by one Stephen Paddock.
The “non-stop gunfire,” according to one witness, “sent bystanders outside the resort on the Las Vegas running for cover and scrambling for their lives.”
Another witness described someone dying in their arms. It is also reported that the lone gun man shot indiscriminately into the growing crowd and the howling gun shoot panicked many men and women, old and young, making some of them to die from suffocation.
One video showed the terrifying aftermath as the injured lay on stretchers or on the ground with responders and bystanders surrounding them to give aid. Bystanders made makeshift stretchers out of police barricades, plugged wounds with their hands and used their clothing to try to stanch the bleeding from the wounded.
The final night of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival was taking place across the street from Mandalay Bay. Jason Aldean was the night’s headliner; other performers included country stars Jake Owen, Big & Rich, Luke Combs and Dylan Scott.
