Nine passengers of an intra-city commercial bus Tuesday morning were sent to their early grave by a heavy-duty truck in Benin, the Edo State capital.
The terrifying incident took place along the ever-busy Sapele Road by Ogbelaka Junction around 7.30 a.m. when most residents were rushing to work, offices and their business places.
The sand-conveying truck, which had brake failure, suddenly rammed into the moving commercial bus, fondly called Tuke-Tuke, killing the nine passengers on the spot before hitting another truck towards the Government Reservation Area (GRA).
Bodies of the victims were deposited in a morgue while the injured passengers were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the nearby Edo Specialist Hospital in Benin.
The accident led to gridlock with many motorists and commuters groaning, forcing many people to trek to their destinations.
Security operatives, including policemen and members of vigilance groups had restored normalcy to the scene of the incident.
