Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Monday, described as shameful President Muhammadu Buhari’s excitement over the outcome of the poll, saying what happened was nothing short of electoral corruption.
The party wondered why Buhari failed to condemn what it called the “emasculation and subversion of the will of Ekiti people and the stealing of another party’s victory by force.
In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary, PDP said Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, should not mistake the outcome of last Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State as an indication of their acceptance by people of the state.
It also urged the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to bury their heads in shame, adding that Nigerians had already made up their mind to vote a new President in the next general election.
“If for President Buhari and the APC, the subjugation of the people, as witnessed in Ekiti, amounts to an election, then, the nation is headed to a serious crisis, as such will be resisted with all legitimate force available within our laws in the defence of our nation’s democracy.
“The APC and INEC must note that what happened in Ekiti, as a single state, cannot be pulled through in a general election, especially where the people have made up their minds to seek a new President.
“While we are still pursuing the recovery of our stolen mandate in Ekiti, we state in very strong terms that this will be the last time the PDP will, under any circumstance whatsoever, allow itself to be manipulated out at the polls at any level,” the statement read in part.
In a related development, the PDP has charged President Buhari to use his attendance of the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the International Criminal Court, ICC, Rome Statute to report his administration to the court over documented human right abuses, crime against humanity and killings in Nigeria under his watch.
The party said the fact that Buhari was the only Head of Government invited to the event showed that the world was taking stocks of the mindless killings going in some parts of the country in the past few years.
