    NUJ Gets New President

    A new president for  the 62-year-old Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) was elected on Friday to pilot the affairs of the body for the next three years.

    He is Chris Isiguzo, the South-East Bureau Chief of ThisDay newspapers, the immediate past Vice president of Zone C of the union.

    Isiguzo who won the election at the just-concluded sixth Delegates Conference of the union held in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital got 346 votes to defeat Waheed Odusile, the immediate past president of the union who garnered 329 votes.

    Other contestants were Bamidele Atunbi, 101 votes, Abiodun Olalere, 56, Uzaka Abraham, 30, Jacob Edi, 16 while Alademka Adelegan scored nine votes.

    Announcing the results, Benson Upah, the returning officer from Nigeria Labour Congress declared Isiguzo the winner, and commended participants for the peaceful conduct of the election.

    A total of 908 journalists across the country participated in the election.

    Meanwhile, Dr. Bassey Eyoh emerged as the new zonal secretary of Zone F (South South).

    Eyoh got his certificate of return from Mr.  Dahiru Mohammed, the chairman of the Credentials Committee after the 6th Triennial Delegates Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
