Some Nigerians have described President Donald Trump’s vow to stop citizenship by birth for non-citizens of America as a measure that would help check corruption in Nigeria and Africa.
Recall that CNN had reported that Trump vowed to end the right to citizenship for the children of non-citizens and unauthorized immigrants born on US soil in an interview with Axios
A Nigerian identified as Chidebere Nwobodo on Facebook, said, “I love Donald Trump. No one will mess up this country and take his wife to America to give birth to make his children American citizens again. Everyone must stay home and fix this mess of a country we found ourselves in. My wife doesn’t need to born (sic) our kids in US for their future to be secured. We should stop consuming abroad what we cannot afford in our own nation.
“This is one of the reasons our health sector is in a devastated and comatose state today. I was born in UNTH Enugu. Did I die? Am I not a living being in the land of the living today? Nonsense. My child that will be born abroad should better not enter my wife’s womb simple”.
Another Nigerian, Chi Chi Amina, said “that’s when a president is in control of his country, best performing president. This will help reduce corruption in some countries especially in Nigeria. Everyone wants to become American citizen.”
“A welcome and excellent policy USA, let everyone be identified and stick to his/her ancestral root,” said Muktar Shinkafi.
Larry Chigbata, another Nigerian who commented on the issue, said “Is (sic) time for Africans to think home. Trump is showing us the way but some are too greedy or ignorant to understand. To me trump is the best president any country can have even though I don’t like him.”
However, few persons who condemned the development, thought that President Trump was biting more than he can chew.
Godfift J Samuel said “well Trump’s executive order will only last as long as he stays in office. Another president will undo his executive order. He’s only trying to play his racist card. Those of you in Nigeria supporting Trump supports him blindly. The 14th amendment of the United States is supreme to Trump’s executive order.”
“Mr. Trump, you’re becoming very arrogant considering where you were projected from. Your own citizenship might also get terminated if we go back to your origin,” Egu Chris said.
