In the aftermath of the crisis that paralysed the socio-economic activities in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun local government areas, crisis-torn communities whose ailing mono-economy further nosedived are still counting their losses that ran into millions of naira.
The crisis spawned by the then aggrieved youths grounded all activities in areas and hit agrarian businesses mainly palm oil production and subsistence farming, the major sources of livelihood of the people.
Though Ukanafun local government council had on Friday, November 9 organised solemn assembly followed by tree planting to signal a return of peace to the deserted area, the spill over effects on the economy of the area are far from being over.
As a fall-out, Bank of Agriculture, Ikot Akpa Nkuk in Ukanafun packed up and relocated to Ikot Ekpene.
Also, Prudent Co-operative Micro-Finance Bank closed up and the management of the bank threw its 26 staffers into the overcrowded labour market.
The Chairman of the bank, Arc. Ubokutom Nyah confirmed this to Straightnews reporter in Uyo on Monday.
Nyah further stated that the management of the bank has closed its branch in Obong University, Obong Ntak in Etim Ekpo local government area due to the crisis.
Markets in the troubled communities were razed and petty trading businesses closed shops.
Subsistence farming common to the areas was at the crisis as most indigenes of the areas fled, leaving uncultivated farms.
Stray domestic animals and birds posed unusual sight as thieve and carefree security men prey on them unabatedly.
However, people in the besieged areas are still in limbo as their wounds are not healed and losses restored, weeks after governor Udom Emmanuel expressed joy over return of peace to the areas and assusrance of rehabilitating the jungle boys.
