A new Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Hyelasinda Musa Kimo has resumed duty.

This follows the removal of Mr. John Abang, the Akwa Ibom State Commisioner of Police by Mr. Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of Police.

Abang, who was the 24th CP in the state, held the position for barely a month.

Straightnews gathered that the sudden change may not be unconnected with the fracas at the state house of assembly Monday in which Idongesit Ituen of Itu State Constituency was reportedly beaten by some security operatives in the assembly premises.

Until his present posting the Commissioner of Police, Kimo was the Federal Special-Anti robbery Squad, Force Headquarters, Abuja and was the 35th Commissioner of Police, Edo State in 2015.

Kimo joined the Nigeria Police in 1986 as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose to his present rank of Commissioner of Police. He is a holder of bachelor degree in Political Science obtained from the University of Sokoto.

He had served in various capacities in the force including Second in Command, 19 PMF Port Harcourt, Commander 11 PMF Calabar, 28 PMF Umuahia and 26 PMF Uyo. Other positions he held are Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Oyo State and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Logistics and Supply, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

A married man, Kimo has attended various development courses both at home and abroad. He is a versatile police officer with impeccable track records.

As at the time of filing this report, DSP Odiko MacDon, the state Police Public Relations Officer, did not take several calls put through to him by our reporter.

However, a security operative at the state police headquarters, who did not want his name in the press, told our correspondent “it is true. There is a new commissioner now.”
