Barely one week Musa Kimo, the 25th Commissioner of Police was posted to the state, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has passed a resolution calling for the redeployment of the new police boss.

Kimo took over from John Abang, the state outgone police boss, who was barely one month old in the state.

The call may not be unconnected with the lingering crisis in the state assembly in which it was alleged that the five sacked lawmakers were escorted by some armed policemen and some people suspected to be thugs to the hallowed chamber of the house.

This is as the house has issued arrest warrant calling on security agents to arrest the five ousted lawmakers.

They are Nse Ntuen, Essien Udim; Gabriel Toby, Etim Ekpo/Ika; Otobong Ndem, Mkpat Enin; Victor Udofia, Ikono; and Idongesit Ituen, Itu.

The house also ordered for the arrest of Godwin Ukpong, a retired sergeant-at-arms in the house said to have walked in the five sacked lawmakers to the hallowed chamber.

Straightnews gathered that Ukpong carrying a “mace” escorted Nse Ntuen, the “factional speaker” and the four of the ousted legislators to the house where Ntuen purportedly “presided over” the proceedings of the “house plenary” on Tuesday.

Ntuen banged the “gavel” and “removed” Onofiok Luke, the house speaker and “suspended” 11 house members.

An unconfirmed report said the five sacked lawmakers bolted through the backdoor when they got wind that the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, escorted by armed policemen, state security service officials and some youths, had arrived at the house premises enroute the chamber.

They were yet to leave the assembly when Governor Emmanuel, who belongs to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, arrived with police officers, officials of the State Security Service (SSS), and some youth loyal to the state government and the PDP to chase away the factional lawmakers.

Photos posted on Facebook showed some of the lawmakers fleeing for safety.

“Let nobody, party think they can intimidate us in Akwa Ibom State,” the speaker, Mr Luke said during plenary, as he, alongside other lawmakers, took control of the assembly.

“The people of Akwa Ibom have shown solidarity as seen in what happened today. We will continue to stand with our governor. We will continue to make laws for our economic development of the state and for the betterment of the youth of the state,” the speaker said.

The House of Assembly, reacting to the latest development, passed a vote of confidence on Mr Luke.
