The Akwa Ibom Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini has assured the electorate that elections materials meant for the postponed elections in the state are intact, saying “There is no cause for alarm.”
The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu announced on Saturday in Abuja the shift of the elections slated for February 16 and March 2 to February 23 and March 9, this year, citing “logistic and operational problem.”
Addressing journalists in his office on Saturday, Igini said the election umpire in the state did not distribute sensitive materials to the various polling units.
Igini said the agents of the various political parties actually saw and confirmed that the elections materials were not despatched to the 31 local government areas in the state for elections earlier scheduled for February 16.
He informed that the commission will configure the card readers again for the next elections to avoid fraud since it has soft and hard wares.
He commended the electorate in the state for conducting themselves orderly after INEC had postponed the elections.
