England has won the Under-17 World Cup after beating Spain 5-2 in a spectacular comeback from being two goals down in the first half an hour.
England fought back from two goals down to stun Spain and win the Under-17 World Cup in Kolkata. They trailed to two first-half goals by Barcelona forward Sergio Gomez as Spain gained control of the contest. But Golden Boot winner Rhian Brewster scored to give hope before the break with a close-range header
Morgan Gibbs White equalised for England early in the second half following Steven Sessegnon cross. Phil Foden then put them ahead with 20 minutes to play, with Marc Guehi scoring a fourth to seal victory. Manchester City star Foden added a fifth goal in the closing minutes to round off a remarkable comeback.
The youngsters lifted the trophy for the first time ever amid scenes of jubilation at the tournament in India with an explosion of joy as the final whistle sounded.
But there will be no popping of champagne corks tonight because the whole team is too young to drink – and several are due back in school next week.
