I Thought I was Going To Die Of COVID-19- Says Bauchi Governor

The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed after discharge from coronavirus treatment, has openly confessed “I thought I was going to die of the virus.”

Mohammed who had tested positive to COVID-19 pandemic recounted his grueling experience in the self-isolation while undergoing treatment of the dreaded virus that had killed at least 10 in Nigeria and many in the world.

In a live interview with the reporter of Channels Television, Lagos on Monday night, the governor said when he discovered that he had been infected with the virus, he went into self-isolation and was quarantined.

According to him, “When I had the symptoms of the virus, I went into self-isolation. The doctor used anti-biotic and chloroquine to treat me. It was not an easy thing, particularly now that an approved vaccine has not been found for the deadly virus.”

Asked why he attended Jumat prayers after his discharge, he said he observed social distancing in the mosque, but advised the excited crowd not to visit him for now.

He regretted the Federal Government’s decision to exclude Bauchi State just like states as Lagos, FCT and Ogun from the lockdown order, since, according to him, it was one of the first states the virus case was reported.

The governor said when the Federal Government failed to impose a lockdown, he did not want to impose it for fear of the economic implications it might have in the state.

Mohammed, therefore, called on the Federal Government to build an isolation centre in the state seen as an epicenter of COVID-19 and offer more assistance for the control of Lassa fever plaguing the state.

“We have closed all our borders with neighbouring states to ensure the virus did not escalate but we have not imposed lockdown on the state because of the economic implicatioins it may have on the people,” he stated.
