The purported impeachment of Ika Local government Chairman in Akwa Ibom by eight out 10 councillors has been countered as a piece of stunt.
A press release signed by Mr. Utibe Ukpong, the leader of the local government Legislature and made available to journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, debunked the rumour, saying such action was never taken nor contemplated by the grassroots lawmakers.
This was after a press statement by eight councillors hit the social media space informing Akwa Ibom people of the impeachment of the council chairman, Anthony Udousung.
Ukpong, who apologised to Akwa Ibom state government for the embarrassment the rumour had caused it, urged Ika people to disregard the purported removal of the Chairman.
The statement explained that the alleged act said to have been done by Ika Legislative Council, does not in any manner, represent the activity of the lawmakers on Thursday, June 11, or before then.
It, therefore, pledged the support of the lawmakers to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the state government, urging the council chairman to go about his normal duties.
The Ika PDP Chapter Chairman, Iboro Nelson Udoh confirmed that the Chairman has not been impeached as purported by some people.
