As a build-up to Edo governorship election holding Saturday, Governor Nyesom Wike is alleged to have been held captive by about 300 policemen in his hotel accommodation in Edo State.

The Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Rivers chapter, Akawor Desmond made the allegation in a press release issued Friday, September 18 in Benin City, capital of Edo State.

Wike also confirmed the development through a series of tweets signed by the Rivers state PDP on his official twitter handle.

“The Hotel where the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike is lodging while on official assignment in Benin, Edo State has been held siege by over 300 Police men.”

According to him, “Rivers People Warn that we Shall hold the IGP responsible for anything that happens to our Governor.

“And in a breach of the pledge they made security agencies have decided to harass and intimidate Governor Wike who has not done any wrong.

“Governor Ganduje and Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State are all in Benin, Edo State carrying out their assignment for the APC without any molestation or intimidation.

In his tweet on Friday, Wike said “Recall that Governor Wike was appointed Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election; this is same position Governor Ganduje of Kano State occupies for his party the APC.

“Let me tell you, God forbid that APC wins. If they do, all of you here would have failed because your political life will be in jeopardy. They will come with federal might. But do not fear because we have the electorate on our side. #EdoDecides

“We want all the States in the South- South to be united. So, it is the best time to join your kits and kins from other Niger Delta States. This election is a fight for the destiny of the region. Edo State cannot continue to be alone. #EdoDecides

“This is an opportunity for you to fight for the liberation of Edo State. You must all say enough is enough. One man should not be allowed to continue to insult Edo people. The godfather thinks what he says will always be. This is time to stop him. #EdoDecides

“Edo must move forward. It is time to put an end to Godfatherism, Freedom is not free, Edo people’s votes must count.

“Election rigging is worse than armed robbery. So whatever sanctions that can be imposed will be highly welcomed by the PDP. #EdoDecides

“I must commend the United States and the United Kingdom for the Visa ban placed on election riggers in the country. They should go ahead and publish their names so that a lot of things will change in our electoral process.

“No amount of money or intimidation will make the people of the State not to vote massively for Governor Obaseki. The agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is to win at all cost for us to go to the tribunal. That is why Edo people must be vigilant.

“Monitor the distribution of electoral materials and be vigilant to protect your votes. The electoral battle may not be easy. But God is with us.  With the people also on ground, we will win. #EdoDecides,” the Governor enjoined.

However, the police authority in Edo State could not be reached to confirm the allegation.
