An Akwa Ibom son and the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Uwemedimo Thomas Nwoko has joined 71 lawyers in the country to become Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Straightnews reported that the Legal Practitioner’s Privilege Committee (LPPC) on Friday named Nwoko and 71 others as new SANs.

It was gathered that a total of 137 lawyers were shortlisted for the rank in 2020 – with 116 advocate applicants and 21 academic applicants. Of the 137 candidates shortlisted, 72 were successful, while 60 did not make the cut.

The successful ones will be conferred with SAN title on December 14, this year in Abjua.

Recall that in 2019 the LPPC named Festus Keyamo, Minister of state for Labour and Productivity; and Akinlolu Osinbajo, brother to the vice-president and the longest-serving attorney general in Ogun state history, as SANs.

So far, about 501 lawyers have been named SAN, the legal elitist club in the country.
