No fewer than five persons died in a ghastly accident that occurred in the wee hours of Thursday along the Kara axis of Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Eye witness account said the incident, which involved a truck and some vehicles occurred when a truck in attempt to avoid another ran into a vehicle parked on the road since last month along Berger/Kara axis of the expressway.

The accident, which happened at 3 a.m. after heavy downpours, led to a gridlock on the highway as motorists on both sides of the roads were stuck for hours while others took alternative routes to their destinations.

However, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), men of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army were on ground to manage the situation while debris of the stricken vehicles had since been cleared from the road.

In a related development, two persons were confirmed dead after a train collided with a vehicle.

Confirming the incidents to Channels Television in a live telephone chat, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the LASEMA received a distress call at about 3.08 a.m. concerning a tanker fire accident which resulted in multiple accidents with fatalities.

Tiamiyu said people died on the spot of the truck/vehicle collision while two persons who were rushed to the hospital by men of the FRSC died on the way.

He said investigation carried out at the scene of the incident revealed that a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of diesel rammed into a stationary truck with brewery products.

Although he could not specifically state how the latter incident occurred, he also confirmed the story.
