Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, one of the strategic oil and gas states of Nigeria in the Niger Delta area has taken on the All Progressives Congress (APC), the political party of President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been dominating the affairs of the country since May 29, 2015.
Governor Wike who is of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party that was on the saddle in the country from 1999-2015, says APC is a curse to the political sovereigns of Nigeria.
According to him, ”when the present administration at the centre came on board, they preached change. They told Nigerians that they are going to change the country, they talked about corruption, and they talked about hunger in the land.
”But two years down the line, it appears that the hunger is even multiplying. It appears also that the corruption they talked about has even doubled”.
Apparently disturbed, he is calling on Christian clerics in Nigeria to work for the enthronement of the rule of law by the Federal Government.
Wike said the relegation of the rule of law by the administration of President Buhari has led to the rise of ”atrocities by agencies of the Federal Government against the opposition states.”
The governor was speaking through his Chief of Staff, Chukwuemeka Woke, an engineer, during the 4th Anniversary celebration of Fire Brand Apostolic Ministry Worldwide at Ibadan, Oyo Capital in Nigeria.
He urged Christians to rise to the occasion, and pray for God’s intervention to stop the atrocity allegedly being perpetrated in the country.
He used the occasion to reiterate his agitation for the Buhari administration to be holistically in their anti-corruption fight as they promised Nigerians during the APC presidential election campaigns.
The governor of the big oil state however, accused President Buhari of being ”selective” in his fight against corruption.
Wike also alleged that government was targeting members of the opposition for selfish purposes, stressing that such acts fuel corruption among key public functionaries of the APC.
Continuing, he said, ”the unfortunate thing is that the anti-corruption fight is sectional. When the opposition is involved in corruption, they will be humiliated, tried, published on the pages of newspapers and prosecuted, even though they have not been able to get one single conviction.
“But when members of the ruling party are involved in corruption, it is covered” and therefore insisted that Christians must rise and pray for Nigeria, adding that the country must be delivered from the curse which the APC has foisted on her.
Earlier, General Overseer of the Fire Brand Apostolic Ministy, Pastor Olufemi Odeyale had said the development projects and programmes of the Rivers State Government were quite commendable.
Odeyale explained that was why the Wike administration has been winning international awards and accordingly urged the PDP governor not to turn away from God.
