Two convicts are awaiting hangman’s noose for the murder of their in-law and uncle in Nigeria’s Jigawa State.

The Jigawa State High Court in Kazaure, Friday, December 10, sentenced one Abdulmutallab Isa to death by hanging for the murder of his in-law at Waiwalo village in Yankwashi Local Government Area.

The defendant was arraigned before the higher court for allegedly using a knife and a horn to inflict injuries on his brother-in-law, Muntari Ibrahim, which led to his death.

The presiding judge, Justice Hussaina Adamu, said the offence of culpable homicide is punishable with death under Section 221 (b) of the Penal Code Law of Jigawa State.

She said the prosecution counsel has proven his case beyond reasonable doubt and therefore sentenced him to death by hanging.

Similarly, Jigawa State High Court in Hadejia, Friday, December 3, sentenced one Magaji Husseini Lushe to death by hanging for killing his uncle.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Ado Yusuf  said Magaji Husseini Lushe of Rigar Didi Lamido village in KiriKaksamma Local Government Area was arraigned before the court for the murder of his uncle Muhammad Alhaji Amadu with a knife.

He said the convict made a confessional statement before the court that he deliberately committed the offence under influence of hard drugs.

Justice Ado Yusuf said the offence was contrary to section 221 of the Penal Code law of 2014 as amended.

He, therefore, convicted and sentenced him to death by hanging.

In addition, Justice Ado Yusuf sentenced one Sa`idu Zakar Hadejia to life for raping an 11-year-old girl in Hadejia.

During his trial, the convict confessed to have committed the offence in addition to prosecution witness.

Delivering judgment, Justice Ado Yusuf said the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that Sa’idu Zakar committed the offence which is contrary to section 283 of the Penal Code law of 2014 as amended.
