A royal father in Akwa Ibom State, Eteidung Aniefiok Okoko Udoma, has called on the state government to ban harmful cultural displays.

Some cultural displays in Akwa Ibom include ekpo, ekpe, ekong, obon, asakum, among others.

Udoma, who is the Village Head of Oku Abak speaking with our reporter in his palace, lamented that some cultural displays have in recent time, inflicted injuries on innocent citizens, using dangerous weapons, which according to him, should not to be so.

The royal father also appealed to the state government to ban pouring of libation, since according to him, Akwa Ibom State christened “the land of promise is named after God.

“I want to appeal that Akwa Ibom State government should look into the issue of pouring of libation and worshipping idol because Akwa Ibom State is christened the “Land of Promise.”

”In Akwa Ibom State, we have some tribes like Annang, named after Canaan. The government should give directive to all the traditional rulers so that any cultural display should get acceptance letter from the Village Head or the Divisional Police Officer before embarking on such, so that if anything happens, the leader should be held responsible,” said the Royal Father.

The Village Head who informed that his village has banned harmful cultural displays and pouring of libation, called on traditional rulers, political leaders, religious leaders among others, to also involve in evangelism so as to win more souls for Christ.

He prayed for peace in the three Senatorial Districts of the state, the leaders at all levels and the peace and unity of the country.

The Eteidung expressed the hope that if proper thing is done, the people will continue to live in peace, and prayed for God’s abundant blessing for the government and people of the state.
