Akiama Community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State was thrown into mourning as a widow lost her two sons in a canal on Saturday, February 19.

The siblings, aged 10 and 7, were children of a widow, Mrs. Ogechukwu Thankgod, whose husband, a dealer in interior decoration materials, died about two years ago.

It was gathered that corpses of the two children were discovered lying on the mud after the river had ebbed.

The canal runs from the back of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) through the Akiama Road and empties into Akiama Creek.

According to reports, the culvert across the canal was reconstructed last year in order to contain the flooding causing erosion in the area.
