Ten more bodies were exhumed on Tuesday from Shakahola Forest land linked to Pastor Paul Mackenzie, bringing the death toll to 211.
Police officers continue to comb through the forest in Kilifi County where victims of a suspected starvation cult are believed to have been buried.
Coast Regional boss Rhoda Onyancha while briefing journalists on May 16, 2023 on exhumation of bodies from Shakahola Forest land said three male adults were rescued from the forest in critical conditions and they were rushed to Malindi Sub-County hospital.
Ms Onyancha said four people were arrested on Tuesday and the number of those reported missing is at 610.
Controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie Nthenge of the Good News International Church is in the middle of the massacre after he reportedly instructed his followers to starve themselves in order to “meet Jesus.”
Mackenzie, who owns the 800-acre plot of land, has been accused of brainwashing his followers and leading them to their deaths.
The rise of cult-like churches in Kenya has become a growing concern with some leaders using extreme teachings that put their followers’ lives at risk.
Mackenzie who is still on trial has not yet been charged.
