    It is new dawn for Public Relations in Nigeria- Ememobong

    The Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong has declared a new dawn for the practice of Public Relations in Nigeria.

    Ememobong who emerged as a governing council member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) said Public Relations practice in Nigeria is set for a revolution.

    Having won as a council member during the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the institute in Abuja, held from Wednesday, 23 to Friday 25, he assured that he would justify the confidence reposed in him on his Fresh Idea campaign mantra.

    Comrade Ememobong, who spoke after the first meeting of the National Council, soon after inauguration in Abuja, said, with the new President and Council Chairman, Dr. Ike Neliaku, proposing fresh ideas, coupled with the track record and capacity of other members.”

    According to him, “Dr. Neliaku-led Council is ready to ensure that the NIPR is well positioned to respond to present-day challenges in proactive manners.”

    With the willingness of the Council to get things done in new ways, he opined that deepened engagement with government, technological revolution, protection of rights, and negotiation of higher bargaining power for members would be some of the legacies to be bequeathed at the end of the Council’s tenure.

    Ememobong, who is also the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, thanked members of the different Chapters of NIPR, who voted for him during the election.

    Calling on members from across the country to continue to support the leadership, he said the faith and confidence of members demonstrated during the election, which culminated in the constitution of the new Council will certainly be justified through effective performance.

    At the end of the election which produced 17 elected members of the Council, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Chief Casca Ogosu, noted that the 2023 election was keenly contested, adding that the turnout was very impressive.

    Udoakpan felicitates Ememobong

    In response to the success, Nsemeke Udoakpan, the Akwa Ibom Chairman of NIPR, wrote ‘‘Congratulations Honourable Commissioner for Information Comrade Ini Ememobong on your well deserved election into the NIPR governing Council.

    ‘‘We are proud of your unwavering passion for new ideas and excellence in our noble profession. You are a genius, Pathfinder and role model worthy of emulation. Overflow therefore with God “s wisdom and strength.’’

    Declaring the winners at the end of the elections which was conducted after the annual general meeting/conference of the NIPR tagged Abuja 2023, with the theme: “Leadership, Public Relations and Value Creation,” the chairman of the electoral committee, Chief Casca Ogosu said this year’s election was Keenly contested adding that the turnout was very impressive

    He, however, congratulated the winners stating that 28 candidates contested for the 17 council membership offices.

    He said, “I congratulate all the winners of the 2023 NIPR elections for various offices. I encourage you to bring your experience to bear for the growth of NIPR. Initially, 29 persons indicated interest for the election but one person withdrew along the line thereby making the number of contestants 28.’’

    He, therefore, urged them to use their wealth of experience to add value to the body so that they can leave it better than they met it.

    The election was held between Thursday and Friday morning and Dr Sule Yay Sule got the highest votes of 868.

    The National Council is Nigeria’s highest regulatory body for public relations practice.

    Of the 1,050 accredited voters, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner polled 867 votes to emerge as the governing council member.
