An Akwa Ibom man who has been nabbed by the police for allegedly defiling his six-year-old daughter may soon appear in court to prove his innocence.

Parading them alongside other suspects of various crimes at the police headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in Uyo Local Government Area, on Wednesday, Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, said ‘‘Relying on a complainant, operatives of Quick Intervention Unit of the Command, on 31/07/2023, arrested one Sunday Michael Ben of Aka Itiam Etoi in Uyo LGA for allegedly defiling his 6-year-old daughter.

‘‘Suspect had earlier gone to carry the victim from the mother to his house. Unfortunately, the next day when he returned her, she was found with blood stains and injuries on her private part. She was taken for medical examination which confirmed the obvious.

‘‘The above suspects and others will have their days in court.’’

In an interview with journalists, the suspect said: “I had my daughter with me in the house. And that night, I woke up to fix my heater that was bad because there was light. I didn’t touch her.

‘‘I believe my girlfriend, who was with me in the house, committed the act. I only noticed in the morning that she had bloodstains on her leg.”

In another defilement case, Durosinmi said ‘‘On 1/7/2023 at about 8:00am through a report. one Bright Chidera Nwoke ‘m’, aged 29yrs a resident of Eket L.G. Area was arrested by Eket Division for defiling a ten-year-old girl of same residence.

‘‘Suspect who confessed to the crime stated that he had earlier sent the junior brother to go and buy recharge card before taking the victim to his room and covered her mouth. Thereby preventing her from raising alarm.’’
