Akwa Ibom government has donated 20 Toyota Hilux trucks worth multi-millions of Naira to security agencies in the state to boost their operations.
This was as the government had donated 14 gunboats to security agencies for water security operations to make Akwa Ibom unsafe for criminal elements.
Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, while presenting a vehicle to the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Waheed Ayilara, said the first acquisition of the donation was just the first phase of vehicles acquisition for land and water security patrol respectively.
Eno reiterated his administration resolve to do all within its powers to continuously improve security in the state.

Stressing the needed for unified operations, the Governor said the state was also setting up a Tactical Command Control Centre to enhance information sharing and synergy among the relevant agencies.
He thanked the service commanders for the robust relationship between the various security agencies and the state government, especially in their diligence in carrying out changes in command without allowing any security gaps or temporary safe-haven for criminals.
His words, “We are determined because the primary duties of any government are to secure the lives and property of its citizenry and their welfare. We are determined to make sure we don’t fail in that regard.
“We’ll do anything to ensure that criminals leave Akwa Ibom shores alone whether it is by sea or land. We are donating these vehicles towards the realization of those goals and objectives of government and benefits to our people.
“I had promised that I’ll give whatever it takes to continue to improve security in this state. We had done the boats and we will make sure all 14 of them are working to help out people. We’re going to support with land vehicles and other things. We’re setting up a Tactical Command Control Centre in Akwa Ibom so that all the services can work together.”
The governor, however, cautioned that the vehicles were designated for security operations within Akwa Ibom State and not to be taken outside for purposes that will thwart government intentions for acquiring buffer them.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the security agencies in Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner of Police Ayilara, commended the he governor genuine intentions and efforts to support security operations, assuring that the vehicles would be utilized optimally to ensure security of lives and properties in the state.
The State Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (rtd.), said the vehicles were fitted with state-of-the-art gadgets to ensure secure communication between patrol teams, with base station at the various security offices.
