Kamala Harris has garnered enough votes from delegates to pick Democratic Party’s gauntlet for president in the 2024 US Presidential elections, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, Jaime Harrison, has announced.
This is as the Republican presidential candidate, former US President, Donald Trump has daubed Harris a ‘liar,’ disputing the claim that she is a black.
“I am so proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has earned more than a majority of votes from all convention delegates and will be the nominee of the Democratic Party following the close of voting on Monday,” Harrison said during a campaign update video call on Friday.

“You returned your nomination petitions at lightning speed. You made your voices heard. And what you said was clear: We are not going back. We have to send Kamala Harris to the White House,” Harrison said to the delegates in a call plagued by audio issues. “You demonstrated your dedication and your commitment to this process.”
In a Harris for President campaign call, she said: “I am honored to be the presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
“As your future president, I know we are up to this fight, and when we fight, everyone will say, we win,” she later added.
if she wins the general election in November against former President Donald Trump, she would be the first woman to serve as president. Harris is already the first woman, Black person and person of South Asian descent to be vice president.
The news comes just 12 days after President Joe Biden ended his campaign for reelection on July 21, and endorsed her.
Meanwhile, Trump shared a photograph of Vice President Kamala Harris wearing an Indian attire and also her birth certificate as he continued to push racially charged claims that the Democratic presidential candidate isn’t really black.
A day after accusing Harris of only recently claiming Black heritage, Trump added to the controversy by sharing the photo of Harris wearing traditional Indian attire alongside her mother and maternal relatives.
“Thank you Kamala for the nice picture you sent from many years ago! Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Your warmth, friendship, and love of your Indian Heritage are very much appreciated,”
The message came as Trump showed no signs of backing away from the controversy he launched during a 35-minute argumentative interview with reporters at the National Association of Black Journalists.
Trump’s campaign posted a headline depicting Harris as the “first Indian-American senator” elected from California as he addressed a rally in Pennsylvania.
J.D. Vance, Trump’s vice presidential running mate, praised Trump for having the courage to respond honestly to tough questions and slammed Harris as a “chameleon.”
Trump then reposted a series of posts from far right Republican Laura Loomer that “Kamala Harris’ birth certificate proves[s] that she is lying about being Black” and “CNN did a whole interview about how Kamala is Indian.” That post ends with the declaration, “Not Black!”
Trump also reposted Loomer’s quoted post of an alleged birth certificate belonging to Kamala Harris. Loomer claims the birth certificate doesn’t claim Harris “is Black or African.”
However, the alleged birth certificate also states Harris is of Jamaican heritage and most Jamaicans are of African descent. Loomer also claims that “Trump is correct” to attack Harris because she is “not Black and never has been.” Loomer then stated that Harris is “the descendent of slave owners.”
Already, Trump decreed “I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, but it was not immediately clear if Harris had agreed to the debate.
