Amid tears and eulogies on his special style of policing while in active service, Waheed Ayilara, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom Command, has been laid to rest at Ikoyi Cemetery by his relatives and colleagues.
Ayilara was buried in accordance with Islamic rites hours after medical experts at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja pronounced him dead.
The Commissioner of Police, who died on early Thursday at the medical facility where he had gone for a surgery to aid him in policing Akwa Ibom.
Neither the Akwa Ibom Police Command nor Lagos Police Command yet to issue statement to confirm his death.

In November 2023, as a DCP, Ayilara was unveiled as the acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos.
Ayilara, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, took over from AIG Idowu Owohunwa.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, deployed Ayilara to head Akwa Ibom State Command in February 2024.
