A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong has ‘congratulated’ Akwa Ibom people for not joining #endbadgovernace protest that rocked the country in August.
In his X handle on Sunday, Effiong mocked the people over the economic hardships facing them, despite the fact that they did not participate in the protest.
‘‘My dear Akwa Ibom people, your governor told you not to join the End Bad Governance Protest because Akwa Ibom is a peaceful State, and is named after God.
‘Your governor, along side leaders of the NUJ, NBA, youth groups and so on publicly distanced Akwa Ibom from the nationwide protests, and later celebrated the fact that while Nigerians were protesting, you were at home enjoying Happy Hour because Akwa Ibom is a peaceful State,’’ the Akwa Ibom-born lawyer wrote.
Recall that after the protest, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, praised the youths in the state for distancing themselves from the nationwide protest, thus maintaining the peaceful ambience of the state.

As a compensation to the youths over their action, the governor announced plans by his administration to launch a social welfare programme that will provide monthly support for about 5,000 youths in the state.
Straightnews gathered that since August the governor is yet to fulfil the pledge to the youths.
Effiong mocked ‘‘I’m told that the present economic hardship has not affected you. I also heard that people in the State are buying fuel happily and peacefully. The rice that you collected from your governor should sustain you till the next election.
Congratulations!’’
He pointed out that ‘‘However, if you’re also suffering like the rest of the country, don’t worry, you have an International Worship Centre. Go there and pray and the price of fuel and electricity tariff will favour you and your families.
‘‘If that option does not work, you can go to the Senate Chambers in Abuja and demand to see your son who happens to be the Senate President. Your problems will be solved.
‘‘We must maintain the peace in Akwa Ibom State, even though it is the peace of the graveyard.’’
According to him, ‘‘Akwa Ibom people that voted for Tinubu because of Godswill Akpabio, how’s this economy treating you people? I want to know how “your son” being in the government and occupying the office of the Senate President has changed your lives?
‘‘By the way, this present Senate is the worst we have had. This is a Senate that approves everything and investigates nothing. It is a Senate that only exists to serve the interest of Tinubu. A Senate that sleeps while the nation is burning.
‘‘Apart from the few individuals who are getting political appointments and financial rewards because of the influence of Akpabio, was the support given to Tinubu worth it?
‘‘When you let tribal and parochial sentiments to determine your political decisions, you’ll suffer for it,’’ he posited.
