President Bola Tinubu has conferred the honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and the Chief Justice of the Federation, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Tinubu made the declaration while addressing Nigerians Tuesday morning to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.
GCON is the second highest national honour. It was conferred on Vice President Kashim Shettima.

“The Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation have been conferred with the honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON),” he said.
He also announced that the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass have the honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).
Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House was awarded Commander of the Order of Niger (CON) as part of the national honours awards.
Recall that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan conferred the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON, on Chief Godswill Akpabio, then Akwa Ibom Governor, on November 14, 2011.
