Bishop Thomas Dexter (T.D.) Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals after he suffered a health scare, US megachurch Potter’s House says.

TD Jakes suffered the scare while delivering a sermon during the church’s service on Sunday.

“The meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, oh Lord,” the celebrated preacher prayed while struggling to breathe.

“My strength and my redeemer, let them go in peace,” Bishop Jakes said, bowing his head and lowering his microphone.

Some officials of the church rushed to the podium and surrounded the preacher with one of them calling on the congregation to pray.

Jakes ministered at the Akwa Ibom Carol Festival at the Ibom Hall grounds in on December 17, 2021.

But in a statement, the Potter’s Church in Dallas, Texas described the scare as a ” slight health incident”.

“During today’s service, Bishop T.D. Jakes experienced a slight health incident and received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message,” the Potter’s House said in a short message on its Facebook page.

“Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals. The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers.”

The church in the message which was also cross-posted on TD Jakes X’s handle, did not, however, give details of what caused the incident or if Bishop Jakes was hospitalised.

    ‘He’s Recovering Well’

The clergyman’s daughter Sarah Jakes Roberts and her husband Touré Roberts in an earlier post on Instagram said Bishop Jakes was “already beginning to improve”.

“It’s a reminder that even going into this holiday season, we need to love on the people who you hold near and dear and just take the time to be grateful for all the people God’s given you,” said Sarah Jakes Roberts.

“Obviously today could have been a tragic day but it wasn’t; by the mercy of God, by the grace of God, Bishop is doing well he’s recovering well, he’s under medical care, he’s strong. We’re trying to get him to sit down, he’s the strong Bishop that we know, but we really can’t thank you enough for your prayers,” Touré Roberts added.

The Potter’s House is a nondenominational church with a membership strength of over 30,000, according to its website.

It was founded in 1996 and is led by the 67-year-old Jakes.
