    UEFA 2024/25 quarterfinals: Know elite teams, fixtures and time

    The 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League has entered its quarterfinal stage, with eight elite teams set to vie for a coveted spot in the semifinals.

    The matchups promise thrilling encounters, showcasing Europe’s finest football talent.

    Quarterfinal Fixtures, Schedule

    The quarterfinal ties are scheduled as follows:

    Arsenal vs. Real Madrid: A clash between the Premier League leaders and the reigning European champions.

    Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) vs. Aston Villa: PSG faces a resurgent Aston Villa side making waves in Europe.

    Barcelona vs. Borussia Dortmund: A battle of attacking prowess between the Spanish giants and the German contenders.

    Bayern Munich vs. Inter Milan: A rematch of the 2010 final, with both teams in formidable form.

    The first-leg matches are slated for April 8 and 9, with return legs on April 15 and 16, 2025.

    League Phase, Road to the Final

    This season introduced a revamped league phase, replacing the traditional group stage.

    Teams played eight matches against varied opponents, with the top 24 advancing to the knockout stages.

    The top eight teams earned direct entry into the Round of 16, while teams ranked 9th to 24th contested in playoff rounds.

    This format aimed to increase competition and excitement throughout the tournament.

    Post the quarterfinals, the semifinals are scheduled for April 29-30 (first legs) and May 6-7 (second legs).

    The grand finale is set for May 31, 2025, at Munich’s Allianz Arena.

    Round of 16 Recap

    The Round of 16 delivered intense action and memorable moments:

    Arsenal vs. PSV Eindhoven: Arsenal secured a 9-3 aggregate victory, with the second leg ending in a 2-2 draw. Despite the draw, Arsenal’s dominant first-leg performance ensured their progression.

    Aston Villa vs. Club Brugge: Aston Villa showcased their strength with a 3-0 home win, culminating in a 6-1 aggregate score. Marco Asensio’s stellar performance was pivotal in their success.

    Real Madrid vs. Atlético Madrid: In a dramatic derby, Real Madrid edged out Atlético 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw. Controversy arose when Atlético’s Julian Alvarez had a penalty disallowed for a double touch.

    Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) vs. Liverpool: PSG eliminated Liverpool with a 4-1 penalty shootout win at Anfield, thanks to goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s crucial saves.

    Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen: Bayern Munich displayed dominance with a 5-0 aggregate win, highlighted by Harry Kane’s goal and assist in the second leg.

    Barcelona vs. Benfica: Barcelona advanced with a solid performance, setting up a quarterfinal clash against the winner of the Dortmund-Lille tie.

    Borussia Dortmund vs. Lille: Dortmund secured their quarterfinal spot, setting the stage for a high-octane encounter with Barcelona.

    Inter Milan vs. Atlético Madrid: Inter Milan progressed after a hard-fought battle, earning their place in the last eight.

    The road to Munich

    Meanwhile, the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals are set, and the potential semifinal matchups could feature some of Europe’s most storied clubs.

    According to the tournament bracket, the winner of the Arsenal vs. Real Madrid tie will face the victor of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) vs. Aston Villa matchup.

    On the other side, the team that emerges from the Barcelona vs. Borussia Dortmund clash will meet the winner between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

    This setup opens the door for high-stakes encounters, such as a possible Arsenal vs. PSG semifinal, or a classic showdown between Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

    These potential clashes would not only be a treat for football fans worldwide but also set the stage for a thrilling road to the final.
