Following the expiration of the two-term Comrade Amos Etuk’s administration on August 2, new leaders have emerged to run Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council for the next three years.
At the breath-taking election held at NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, Comrade Nsibiet John, publisher of The Ink Newspaper, was elected State Chairman of the union.
Comrade John, a member of the Federated Chapel of the union, emerged victorious after polling 555 votes to defeat Comrade Nene Afia of the State Ministry of Information Chapel, 92 votes, Effiong Edet, 21 votes and Esther Effiong, who got four votes.

Also elected is Comrade Margaret Moore of the State Ministry of Information Chapel, who returns as Vice Chairman for a second term.
New NUJ Elected officers take oath of officeMoore got 393 votes while his co-contenders: Mkpoikana Eno, 246 votes while Ernest Udo scored 34 votes.
Comrade Nsikak Esenowo, also of the Ministry of Information Chapel, was elected Secretary after polling 419 votes to defeat Michael Ufot of Sensor Chapel with 253 votes.
Other officers elected unopposed Comrade Udeme Hosea – Treasurer; Comrade Kufre Emmanuel – Financial Secretary; Comrade Uduak Akai – Assistant Secretary and Comrade Dianime Uko – Auditor.
Already, the elected officers have taken oath of office.
