The management of Southern Atlantic University, Uyo in Akwa Ibom has appointed Mr. Mkposong Asuquo as a member of its Governing Council.
Mr. Asuquo, a seasoned entrepreneur and development strategist, will bring with him a wealth of experience spanning business, education, energy, and community development to the council.
His appointment reflects the University’s commitment to fostering leadership that is both innovative and rooted in service to society.
Mr. Asuquo will work alongside distinguished members of the Governing Council among such eminent scholars and professionals as Senator Ita Enang, Prof. Akpan Ekpo, Prof. Etete Peters, Prof. Usen Ikpe, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, Rev. Udeh Agwu, and Francis Maduekwe to strengthen the University’s vision of delivering world-class education in Nigeria.
The Governing Council serves as the highest decision-making body of the institution, guiding its policies, strategic growth, and long-term sustainability.

Speaking on the appointment, Pastor Bassey James, the Founder of Southern Atlantic University, remarked: “We are delighted to welcome Mr. Mkposong Asuquo into the Governing Council. Southern Atlantic University, a private institution in Uyo was granted its provisional licence by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in May 2025 when the Federal Government granted licences to 11 new private universities.
