A member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Lagos State died Thursday after a train on Ikeja axis of the rail line hit her.
Punch reports that while she was trying to walk across the rail track, Nneka Odili, the young woman, who wore head phones could not hear the horn of the train.
A friend of the victim said Odili was popularly known as Nini by her friends.
According to her, the incident occurred on Thursday while they were heading home from the monthly clearance exercise by corps members at the Ikeja local government Secretariat.
Oma said, “Nneka’s death is something I still don’t believe is real. How can she just die like that-somebody I still related with not too long before then? I really cannot say much- her death is one of the most painful things to have happened to me.”
Odili was said to have been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but she later died.
The deceased studied Home Economics at the Federal College of Education, Technical, Omoku, Rivers State. Later, she studied Human Kinetics at the University of Port Harcourt.
Mrs. Belinda Faniyi, the NYSC Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, who confirmed the incident, stated that the entire organisation was shocked by the incident.
