A University of Calabar (UNICAL) student, Eno-Obong Iyakakwa Okpodighi has emerged as the sole First Class overall best in Engineering Faculty.
Okpodighi achieved the remarkable academic milestone ever recorded in UNICAL to become the first Class graduate in her set ahead of the institution’s forthcoming convocation.
In what could be described as a historic academic feat, Okpodighi also clinched the prestigious title of Overall Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, becoming the first female to ever attain the height across several departments in the faculty.
A native of Mbokpu Uko Akai in Urue-Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, the brilliant lady graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, distinguishing herself through academic excellence, resilience, and unmatched determination.

Raised by a single mother, Okpodighi combined work with her studies, navigating financial and academic challenges with grit and focus – qualities that ultimately set her apart among her peers.
Beyond the classroom, she demonstrated a deep passion for practical engineering, with hands-on interests in welding, machining, and technical innovation. Her vision is to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application by integrating practice, research, and innovation in engineering.
Her leadership qualities shone brightly during her time on campus, where she served as Vice President of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers Students’ Chapter (NIMechE-SF), UniCal, actively promoting engineering engagement and professional development among students.
Her story stands as a powerful inspiration to young Nigerians, especially women in STEM, proving that with determination, resilience, and focus, excellence is achievable against all odds.
