Fear and grief have gripped the people of Ikot Udo Obobo Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom over the gruesome murder of a 27-year-old man, simply identified as Okon.
The charred remains of the victim reportedly burnt inside his room under doubtful circumstances described by police as deliberate and violent sent jitters across the villagers.
Confirming the tragic incident on Sunday, DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer of Akwa Ibom Police Command, in a press release , said operatives acting swiftly on credible intelligence, stormed the scene and securing the area amid widespread panic.

‘‘Preliminary findings pointed to a calculated act of culpable homicide, intensifying fears among residents already grappling with the gruesome nature of the crime.
‘‘Following days of investigation, authorities confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Idem Etim (male) and Namkere Ikoboatang (female), who are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing inquiries,’’ the police stated.
‘‘The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure that all persons involved in this barbaric act are identified, apprehended, and brought to justice without delay..
“The Command wishes to categorically state that this is a clear case of culpable homicide and will be pursued with the full weight of the law,” the statement emphasized.
The Police hereby warn all criminal elements that Akwa Ibom State is not a safe haven for violent offenders. The Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and will continue to act decisively against all forms of criminality.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.
