In a bid to rid Akwa Ibom of all forms of criminality, Akwa Ibom Police Command has arrested two suspected illegal arms suppliers to criminals in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

A press release issued by the PPRO of the Command, DSP Timfon John, for the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare in Uyo on Saturday and made available to Straightnews newspaper, said the suspects were Udeme Udo, aged 52 and Nkereuwem Udo, aged 42, from Ikot Abia Idem in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded another operational breakthrough in its sustained offensive against criminal elements and illegal arms proliferation within the State.

”Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command on 8th May, 2026, at about 0425hrs, successfully arrested two suspected criminals identified as  Udeme Udo ‘M’, 52 years and Nkereuwem Udo ‘M’, 40 years.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal network allegedly involved in the supply of arms and ammunition to criminals operating within Ikot Ekpene and its environs.

Upon a thorough search conducted on the suspects, one locally made revolver pistol was recovered from their possession.

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and cutting off the supply channels of illegal arms fueling violent crimes across the State.

The CP warned all individuals involved in unlawful possession, trafficking, and distribution of firearms to desist immediately or face the full wrath of the law. He further directed sustained intelligence-driven operations, raids, and surveillance across identified black spots and criminal flashpoints within the State.

Meanwhile, discreet investigation has commenced with a view to arresting other members of the criminal syndicate and ensuring diligent prosecution of all suspects connected to the illegal arms trade.

The Command continues to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest Police formation,” the release added.
