Two former Akwa Ibom lawmakers who served at the State and Federal Legislative houses have passed away within days.

A former Federal lawmaker and academic, Prof. Ini Udoka, who represented Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has passed away.

Similarly, Hon. Imo Ibokete who represented Abak State Constituency in Akwa Ibom House of Assembly from 1999 to 2003, was said to have attended stakeholders meeting in Abak on the fateful day.

According to a close family source, Ibokete was alleged to have fallen sick and could not talk at the meeting before he decided to head home in Uyo where he died in an undisclosed health facility shortly after admission.

Family source confirmed that Prof Udoka died on Sunday, May 17, 2026, after a brief illness reportedly caused by cold-related complications.

He served in the 6th National Assembly from 2007 to 2011 under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Until his death, the university don was widely regarded as a grassroots politician, advocate of community development, and committed leader who dedicated his time and resources to the growth and welfare of his constituents.

During his time in the House of Representatives, the legislator was known for his contributions to legislative activities and his passion for policies aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
