Another indigene of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Anietie Iniedu Okokon has been appointed Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police.

Mr. Okokon, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, takes over from DCP Anthony Okon Placid, a native of Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, who assumed the position barely three months ago after the appointment of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Already, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Disu, has approved the appointment.

The new Police spokesman, who is the son of the late Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okokon Iniedu, former Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, takes over the role with extensive experience spanning public communication, intelligence management, operational policing, administration and institutional accountability.

A graduate of Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo, Iniedu has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, strategic communication, intelligence analysis and human rights-based policing.

A native of Etinan Local Government Area, he had served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated the management of public complaints and led initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

The new Force spokesperson has also held several strategic positions within the Force, contributing to operational and administrative functions across different commands and departments.

According to the statement, the Inspector-General expressed confidence in CSP Iniedu’s capacity to effectively lead the Force Public Relations Department and advance the Force’s communication objectives.

Disu noted that the officer’s wealth of experience and professional competence would bolster the Force’s strategic communication efforts, enhance public engagement and support ongoing policing reforms.
