Akwa Ibom First-Class graduate in Computer Science has left for United Kingdom for Artificial Intelligence programme, courtesy of Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, a member of the House of Representatives.
The 21-year-old Nsikakabasi Nseyen Ebong has sent on an all-expense-paid Master’s degree programme on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the University of Portsmouth.
Ebong is part of the third batch of beneficiaries sponsored to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies in continuation of promise by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency.
Idem’s pledge is to train hundreds of his people abroad, equip them with global knowledge and exposure, and empower them to become self-sufficient in contributing to the development and transformation of the state.

At a brief send-forth ceremony at his National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Dr. Idem gave Nsikakabasi Ebong with additional financial support, charging him to take his studies seriously and remain a worthy ambassador of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.
“Everything you need to be comfortable in the United Kingdom has been provided. Your school fees, accommodation, feeding, return flight tickets and other sundry expenses have been taken care of. I therefore expect you to study hard and come out as the very best, to make me proud, make Akwa Ibom State proud and ultimately make Nigeria proud as an ambassador of our country in the United Kingdom,” he said.
The National Assemblyman also reminded the beneficiary that the programme permits him to take up part-time employment at his convenience, and encouraged him to manage his time wisely and make the most of the opportunity before him.
Apart from acquiring a Master’s degree, the Chairman House Committee on Procurement urged him to see the scholarship as an opportunity to gain more knowledge, skills, experience and global exposure for his development and, ultimately, for the transformation of Akwa Ibom State.
Dr. Idem further reminded him that the investment being made in him comes with a responsibility: ”You must return home and become a multiplier by training, mentoring and empowering others.
‘‘For us, true development is not only about infrastructure; it is also about investing in people and giving our young people the opportunity to compete and succeed anywhere in the world,’’ he added, wishing him a safe journey and a successful academic sojourn in the United Kingdom.
Responding, Ebong thanked the Lawmaker for the opportunity afforded him, describing the scholarship as life-changing.
He pledged to make use of most of the programme and return as a better-equipped professional, promising to make Idem, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria proud.
