A Corps Member serving at Nigeria Medical Association Clinic, Idu Uruan in Akwa Ibom has donated a furnished Clinic to Adadia community in Uruan local government area of the state.

Speaking during the inauguration of the clinic at Adadia community on Thursday, Dr Esther Akpan said her humanitarian gestures were as a result of the favours she got while growing up.

Akpan said her passion of serving lives and the less privileged in rural communities, moved her to build a clinic and donated same to Adadia community as her Personal Community Development Service.

According to her, the desire to sacrifice for humanity stemmed from her experience as an orphan.

Another life-impacting programme undertaken by her within this period included de-worming of pupils of Government Primary School, Ibiaku Issiet.

She also liaised with State government in providing 100 school desk to primary school and setting up of sick bay at Adiaha Obong Secondary School, Ekpene Ukim and Methodist Secondary school, Ibiaku Issiet, all in Uruan.

“I used to feel indebted to my benefactors, but o later discovered that they don’t expect anything from me in return, except to reciprocate their kindness to others.

“So, I decided to turn my indebtedness to humanity that is why I am constantly under pressure to serve humanity because without which I will not be where I am today.

“Therefore, this community development service programme by the NYSC, am only trying to give back to the society a part of what was given to me from the society. This is my primary and most fundamental reason for the project,” Akpan said.

She thanked the state Co-ordinator of National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Mr Julius Amusan for the opportunity given her to serve humanity.

Akpan, a graduate of Zaporozhye State Medical University, Ukraine, also lauded her sponsors for their contributions in cash and kind to her.

Earlier, the state co-ordinator of NYSC, Mr Julius Amusan, described Akpan as one of the outstanding corps member in the state, Amusan had said her achievement was a pride not only to her alone but the NYSC as a whole.

The state Co-ordinator said her projects were timely, especially now that the body
    was celebrating 45 years anniversary.

He charged other Corps members to emulate the vision of Akpan as such would go a long way to adding value to what they do in their service year.

The village head of Adadia, Chief William Udobot, who was represented by Chief Essien Asuquo, thanked Dr Akpan for initiating the project and bringing same to the community where none of such had existed.

He acknowledged the Corps member humble disposition and commitment to the project as the reason why the village council had to provide the site for the building of the clinic without delay.

In a goodwill message, Dr Aniekeme Uwah, the NMA State Chairman, who was represented by Dr Abraham Anla-Treasurer, acknowledged that the clinic would help the people of the community especially the less privileged to have access to health care services.
