2018 Democracy Day: PDP Says Buhari’s Speech Full Of False Claims

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, has charged Nigerians to take their destiny in their hands by procuring their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to vote out the ruling party for failing to deliver on promise made prior to its victory in 2015 general elections.

Secondus, who stated this in a Democracy Day prayer to Nigerians that the President would have no further opportunity to address the nation on Democracy Day, said never gain would a non-democrat as President Buhari be given access to power to put the country’s democracy in danger.

He also urged the Commander-in-Chief to perish the thought of addressing any other as President.

This is even as his party described the Democracy Day address of President Muhammadu Buhari as uninspiring, hollow, and full of self-praise and false performance claims but silent on issues agitating the minds of Nigerians.

In a statement by his media aide Ike Abonyi, the PDP boss said Nigerians were anxiously looking forward to the opportunity to part ways with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Buhari in 2019.

The statement read, “Going by their poor record of performance in the last 36 months, and the determination of Nigerians to put the country in the right footing, this is the last Democracy Day this President will mark.

“The next Democracy Day, May 29, 2019 which Nigerians and indeed all lovers of democracy are anxiously looking forward to, would be the smooth transition from confusion and purposeless governance to real democracy which the PDP is returning to gift to the nation

“If Democracy must survive in our country, we must do away with APC and Nigerians are ready and willing to do just that because they cherish democracy as the best form of government.

He noted that the government of President Buhari has set out to “intimidate, harass and scare opponents to create a police state with the aim of turning the country into  one party state,” adding however that such antics would resisted by Nigerians who passed similar road before and came out victorious.”

Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the Democracy Day address by President Muhammadu Buhari as uninspiring, hollow, and full of self-praise and false performance claims but silent on issues agitating the minds of Nigerians.

The party said the address was seasoned with a list of phantom projects and “executive regurgitation,” inherently designed by President Buhari’s handlers to sway Nigerians and divert attention from the many failures of his administration.

In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s image maker, PDP stated, “The few Nigerians who bordered to listen to the address were miffed that, in the most insensitive manner, Mr. President failed to show the littlest empathy to millions of citizens groaning under the worst form of poverty, starvation and economic hardship occasioned by his misrule.

“No line in the supposed Democracy Day Address” did the Present address the issue of justice for victims of human rights abuses, illegal arrests and detentions as well as killings in Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Kogi and Yobe States, among sundry infractions.

“Mr. President, on Democracy Day, had no words of assurance on the unrelenting violation of our constitution; assault on the National Assembly and erosion of personal freedom of citizens.

“Mr. President’s handlers chose to subject him to a fantasy trip, making false performance claims with phantom projects, muddling up economic statistics and ended up worsening his already diminished public perception.

“PDP notes the fact that the President had no committing words towards the conduct of free, fair and credible 2019 general elections, apparently overwhelmed by the avalanche of his public rejection ahead of the polls.”

The party added that it was largely due to the aforementioned missteps that it advised President Buhari not to bother to address Nigerians on Democracy Day.
