The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, who was billed to appear before the senate today, has for the third time in two weeks, boycotted the invitation.
Two weeks ago, the senate had summoned Ibrahim to come before it to explain the spate of killings going on in the country as well as the inhuman treatment of Senator Dino Melaye by men of the police force.
Members of the senate at the plenary today who frowned at the development, questioned why an appointee would refuse to submit himself for questioning and act against the interest of the people he was appointed to serve.
In his submission, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha described the development as saddening, inexcusable, unacceptable and condemnable, adding that it calls for immediate and serious action.
He proposed for a closed door session where members would deliberate on an appropriate action to be taken on the police boss.
In the same vein, Senator Isah Bisau condemned the action of the police boss, while reaffirming his earlier stance that there is a leadership issue in the police force. He pointed out that, the action taken by the police boss is an act of impunity, against the President Muhammadu Buhari, being the commander -in- chief of the armed forces of Nigeria.
At exactly 12:25pm, Senate President Bukola Saraki following a motion that members of the Senate go into a closed door session, announced that the Senators should dissolve into a closed door session for further deliberation.
