A multi-million naira Housing Estate proposed for Uyo, the state capital may soon be ready for use by Akwa Ibom people.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Akwa Ibom State Government and an Abuja-based Nkachi Lauranti Limited for the development of the estate.
The proposed estate sits on 167 hectares consisting of 555 service plots ranging from 1,700 square metres to 2,400 square metres.
The state Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Ime Ekpo signed for the state government while Arthur Abara signed for Nkachi Lauranti Limited.
Ekp, an architect explained that scope of work for the estate includes asphalt road network, power sub-station, underground distribution network to every plot, water sub-station and reticulation to every plot, central gas plant and distribution network, sewage collection network to every plot and central treatment plant and fibre optic IT conduit network to every plot.
The commissioner urged the contractor to keep to the contractual terms as the state government would keep to its obligations as contained in the MoU.
According to him, the state government places high premium on the quality accommodation of its citizens hence the need to ensure the success of the project.
The commissioner for Housing, Otuekong Raphael Bassey, who was also a signatory to the project, charged the contractor to live up to the expectations of Governor Udom Emmanuel who is passionate to making life comfortable to the people through the project.
Responding, Abara, an architect thanked the state government for awarding the job to his company, and promised to deliver it on schedule
