Akwa Ibom State and its neighbouring states are sitting on the precipice of insecurity as the 28 inmates of Ikot Ekpene Prison who escaped on December 27, 2017 are still at large, StraightNews has learnt.
Of the 47 inmates (official figure given by the Akwa Ibom Controller-General of Prisons) who escaped, 19 had been re-arrested by the prison officials.
Apart from the fact that the hardened criminals could rape and endanger the life of women, men and minors are also facing threats to their life and property.
After an inspection of facilities in Ikot Ekpene Prison on Friday, Mr. Jaffaru Ahmed, the Controller-General of Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), told newsmen that the escapees are yet to be re-arrested.
