The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Thursday, confirmed the 19 Commissioner and two Special Adviser-nominees sent to it by Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Speaker Aniekan Bassey said at the plenary in Uyo, that the nominees had earlier been screened by the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions.

“Accordingly, the list of commissioners and advisers sent by Gov Udom Emmanuel is hereby confirmed.

“The Clerk to the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, is directed to forward the confirmation list to the governor,” Bassey said.

The speaker advised the confirmed commissioners to add value to the lives of the Akwa Ibom people through service as members of the state Executive Council and bring more development to the state.

Earlier, Mr. Victor Ekwere, the Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions, said the nominees were interviewed on a wide range of intellectual issues as well as their area of specialization, adding the credentials and relevant documents of the nominees were also screened.

Ekwere said the Committee observed that the committee did not receive any adverse report against the nominees, adding that they have met the constitutional requirements for appointment as Commissioners as outlined in Section 192 (4) and 106 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

He described the nominees as intelligent men and women of proven integrity who will add value to the administrative machinery of the State.

After moments of interactions with the nominees, the House in a motion moved by Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian, the House Leader, and seconded by Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Denis, the Deputy Leader, cleared and confirmed the nominees for appointment as Commissioners and Special Advisers.

Those confirmed as commissioners included Messrs Akan Okon, Ime Ekpo, Prof. Nse Udo Essien, Uwemedimo Nwoko, Monday Uko, Linus Nkan, Okpolupm Etteh, Ephraim Inyang-eyen, Ekong Sampson, Charles Udoh and Orman Esin.

Mr. Sunny Ibuot and Mrs. Ekemini Umoh were confirmed as special advisers.

Emmanuel had on June 25 forwarded the list of the nominees in a letter to the house.

Meanwhile, a Bill for a Law to Eliminate Violence in Private and Public Life, Prohibit all forms of Violence Against Persons and to Provide Maximum Protection and Effective Remedies for Victims and Punishment of Offenders and for Related Matters.
Again, a Bill for a Law to establish Akwa Ibom State School of Health Technology for Training of various Health Professionals in the State and for other Matters connected therewith, sponsored by the Deputy House Leader, Rt. Hon. Aniefiok Denis, scaled through First Reading.
