Senator Godswill Akpabio has given reasons for his defection from Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the country.
Before he reeled out the reasons, Akpabio burst into a song inferring that the people should love God Almighty, love one another and share what they have with one another.
Speaking Wednesday at Ikot Ekpene Sports Stadium, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio attributed his defection to the need to proffer solution to insecurity particularly in Etim Ekpo, Ika and Ukanafun in Akwa Ibom as well as Boko Haram insurgency in the North East of the country that have claimed thousands of lives.
Akpabio also mentioned that he is defecting to the party to enable connect to the national grid to attract Federal Government projects to the state, pointing out that in times like this all hands must be on deck.
‘’People in PDP have labelled me a conspirator. Yes, I agree to be a conspirator who brings development to the state, who puts food on the tables of Nigerians, who provides security to the people.’’
He used the occasion to beg his poltical foes in the party for forgiveness, saying ‘’I want the people I stepped on their toes to forgive me. What I did was in the best interest of the government and people.’’
The defection ceremony was attended by the APC National leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu; National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiohmole; Boss Mustapha, Secretary of Government to the Federation; Senator Udo Udoma, Minister of Budget and National Planning; Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture; Nsima Ekere, Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC; Umana Okon Umana, Managing Director, Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, OGFZA; and Senator Akpan Udo Edeghe, among others.
