A new Vice Chancellor for Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has been appointed for a single term of five years.
He is Professor Nse Essien who until his appointment was the state Commissioner for Science and Technology and the immediate past Commissioner for Education.
Essien who hails from Ikot Ekpene was the Head of Department of Geology, University of Calabar, Calabar.
This appointment follows the appointment of Professor Eno Ibanga who had served as a Vice-Chancellor and later acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution as a member of the State Executive Council.
A press release signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to the State Government on August 1, indicates that the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has approved the appointment with effect from Monday, August 3, 2020.
Meanwhile, the state government has approved the appointment of Senator Udo Udoma from Ikot Abasi as the Pro-Chancellor in the university.
This followed the resignation of Engr. Sam Inyang from Ikot Ekpene as the Pro-Chancellor of the university.
